The goal of HealthPrism is to identify subpopulations at high risk using rich socio-economic, behavioral, and environmental data to detect individuals and communities that face disproportionate health risks. Through these identifying populations, health agencies can then design tailored interventions to address specific barriers and engage populations more effectively, allocate resources strategically, and measure the impact.
Our design approach for HealthPrism began with in-depth user research, where we interviewed administrative health agencies to identify their pain points and workflow challenges when it comes to identifying at risk populations. The biggest issue was having to use multiple applications to gather data instead of having one central point that all data could flow through.
We created an application that can identify drivers of health that could influence health outcomes and can pinpoint programs and interventions to lower risks. HealthPrism has played a pivotal role in a Federal Health Agency’s effort to mitigate hypertension risks among populations in underserved regions across the United States. With the power of detailed analytics, leaders used HealthPrism to facilitate the effective use of grant-funding aimed at reducing hypertension illness, deaths, and health disparities in these vulnerable communities.
Our design approach for HealthPrism began with in-depth user research, where we interviewed administrative health agencies to identify their pain points and workflow challenges when it comes to identifying at risk populations. The biggest issue was having to use multiple applications to gather data instead of having one central point that all data could flow through. These insights formed the foundation of our problem statement and guided our design direction.
We then defined our project goals, set clear user personas, and outlined key features, ensuring that every design decision was backed by real user needs. This user-centered approach positioned us to create a solution that would directly address the pain points we uncovered.
We began with a thorough analysis of the core tasks performed by administrative health agencies and the type of data they would be searching for. We mapped out a robust search and filter engine to be sure all angles of data could be filtered down and viewed.
To further refine the search tool, we developed wireframes and interactive prototypes, testing them with real users to validate ease of navigation and logical task progression. Feedback revealed opportunities to optimize task sequences, such as combining related search filters under accordions and highlighting the 3 most common filtered items. This iterative process ensured that the final user flow was intuitive, efficient, and tailored to the real-world needs of health agency administrators.
The final design of the app delivered a clean, intuitive, and user-friendly interface that seamlessly integrated essential business functions. Administrators could easily navigate and search for at risk populations with ease using our robust filtering system.
This system is built to benefit state departments of health, state departments of Medicaid, federal health agencies, health non-profit organizations, commercial healthcare organizations and any other organization addressing health outcomes.
